The town is home to a population of 895 people as of 2019. Geographically, Freeman is located in a region known as “Little Dixie” due to its historical ties to the South and its warm climate. The town was originally founded in 1842 by John Freeman and has a rich history of being an integral part of the American Civil War. During that time, it served as an important supply center for Union troops fighting against Confederate forces. In addition, it was also home to several battles between Union and Confederate forces throughout the war. Politically, Freeman is part of Cole County and is represented by Republican Senator Roy Blunt in Congress.
